In this class, you'll explore two different techniques for transforming a pair of jeans into a unique skirt. Choose between creating a tiered skirt or a vertically pieced skirt, each offering its own creative possibilities.
Rather than working from a commercial pattern, you'll learn adaptable techniques that respond to the specific jeans and materials you bring. The course covers resizing jeans for the perfect fit, cutting and constructing skirt tiers, and creating vertically pieced skirt panels using denim from the jeans themselves or additional reclaimed fabrics and garments.
These versatile methods can be applied to a wide range of denim upcycling projects, helping you turn unwanted clothing into a stylish and wearable new piece.
Intermediate level sewing machine skills are required for this course.
What to Bring: Please bring at least one pair of old jeans. A pair that fits comfortably at the waist will make the process easier, but it is not essential. If you are planning to make the vertically pieced skirt, bring additional jeans or denim garments that can be cut up and repurposed.
For the tiered skirt option, you may also bring rayon fabrics, lightweight textiles, or old clothing that can be incorporated into the design.
Where possible, please use materials you already own. This workshop is focused on creative reuse and giving existing textiles a new life, so there is no need to purchase anything new.
Kit cost - $10. Includes extra jeans, rayon fabrics, jeans seams, T-shirt hems
