In this class, you will create two reversible hats—choose from a sun hat, a bucket hat, or make one of each. You will learn how to take accurate measurements and construct hats that fit perfectly while developing essential sewing and construction skills.
The first hat introduces fundamental techniques and construction methods. For the second hat, you will have the opportunity to experiment with different crown and brim designs, including a bound-edge finish that creates a more refined and structured look.
Throughout the class, you will work with a combination of fabrics sourced from previous textile projects, repurposed materials, and leftover fabric scraps, giving new life to existing textiles while exploring sustainable making practices.
Intermediate level sewing machine skills are required for this course.
What to bring: Please avoid purchasing new fabric for this class. Instead, bring any medium-weight cotton or linen fabrics you already have, such as handkerchiefs, tea towels, tablecloths, cotton denim, men's shirts, or fabric remnants from previous projects. Fabric pieces should be a minimum size of approximately 30 x 40 cm. Repurposed textiles and leftover scraps are ideal for this project and support a more sustainable approach to making.
Kit cost - $25. Includes pre-prepared iron on interfacing brim pieces, extra fabrics, patterns
