To new sewers, interfacing is mysterious. Beginner sewers may not realize that there is a world of interfacing varieties. For experienced sewers, it is smart to refresh your understanding of the types and applications. Each type has a specific purpose, and once you know how to select the right one, you’ll be amazed by the improvements in your garments and other projects.

Applique Skirt Sew-Along (1 Jul 2026)

Let your creativity shine in this sew-along. A simple bell-shaped skirt becomes something special with applique, lace and bias binding. You will learn to:

draft a skirt using just 2 measurements
sew in-seam pockets with French seam finishes
insert a zipper into a seamless section

A guide for design will be provided, but you’re encouraged to improvise and add your own personal touch.

There are those who love to make bound buttonholes, single- and double-welt pockets and other couture details, and there are those who put the pattern back in the drawer when they see such things.

In this class you will learn a simple technique for sewing a single-welt pocket with just two pattern pieces. This style of pocket is best suited to unlined, casual garments.

In this class, you’ll learn two effective techniques for constructing inset corners, along with methods to stabilise them and prevent stretching or fraying.
